About the Role

We are seeking our first Head of Sales to build, lead, and scale new logo revenue for Heron, an AI software company automating document-heavy underwriting and back-office workflows for specialty finance. This role is crucial for driving revenue from $13M ARR to over $40M and beyond. You will partner with the co-founder and CRO, and collaborate with product and engineering teams. This is a full-time, in-person role in our NYC office, requiring a hands-on player-coach approach with a personal quota.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full sales cycle from first conversation through close, carrying a small quota.
  • Lead existing AEs and SDRs, and hire, onboard, and coach new team members.
  • Develop and refine Heron's sales motion, including ICP, messaging, pricing, deal structure, and sales stages.
  • Partner with founders, product, and engineering to translate customer pain into clear value propositions.
  • Build and manage pipeline, forecasts, and revenue targets with accuracy and accountability.
  • Establish and refine sales processes, tooling, and metrics (CRM, reporting, enablement materials).
  • Help shape broader go-to-market strategy across sales, partnerships, and potentially customer success.

Requirements

  • Experience in a sales organization from under ~$12M to over $40M ARR.
  • Proven experience as a top AE, front-line manager, or sales leader through significant ARR growth.
  • Experience selling ambiguous, technical products without heavy brand recognition or mature processes.
  • Thoughtful about deal qualification, pricing, and positioning.
  • Ability to learn quickly from wins and losses.
  • Ability to think ahead and build scalable sales processes.
  • Ability to formalize, document, and hire when appropriate.
  • Clear, credible communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to articulate value to customers, investors, and internal teams.
  • Credibility with C-level executives in specialty finance companies.
  • Scrappy and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Resourceful, adaptable, and willing to try unconventional approaches.
  • Persistent in following up and driving deals to clear outcomes.
  • Willingness to go the extra mile, including in-person visits.
  • Proactive in identifying opportunities and driving initiatives.
  • Ability to create momentum without perfect direction.
  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-ownership, collaborative environments.
  • Deep care for team success and willingness to assist wherever needed.
