About the Role
The Patient Care Technician will perform and deliver patient care activities and related non-professional services for assigned hospital patients as directed by registered professional nurses or licensed practical nurses within the ICU/CCU department at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Responsibilities
- Provides daily physical and emotional care to patients, including bathing, toileting, feeding, and ambulating.
- Answers call lights promptly.
- Assists licensed personnel as directed.
- Accurately obtains vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, and performs other procedures as per competency.
- Maintains a safe and clean environment, utilizing appropriate infection control techniques in patient rooms, utility rooms, and the unit.
- Recognizes when to seek assistance from licensed personnel, especially during changes in patient condition.
- Transports patients as needed.
- Provides input to the interdisciplinary health care team.
- Acts as a preceptor for new and orientee Nurse Assistants.
- Demonstrates appropriate body mechanics.
- Displays analytical and basic problem-solving skills, communicating issues to the manager as appropriate.
- Follows all time and attendance policies.
- Attends educational programs related to job responsibilities, both internal and external.
Requirements
- High School graduate or equivalency.
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
- Nursing home or acute care experience preferred.
