About the Role

The Personal Banking Advisor (PBA) manages and builds an assigned book of business, primarily for members with multifaceted needs. The PBA ensures all member financial needs are met by the most appropriate Alterna resource and is accountable for the relationship. Through proactive management, the PBA retains and grows the book by increasing member business share using all of Alterna’s products and services, including credit and investment solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Manages an assigned portfolio of members using financial planning concepts, advisory and relationship tools to meet all members' complex credit/investment needs
  • Establishes regularly scheduled contacts with members/clients to build relationships and identify needs
  • Maintains member relationship files, including financial goals and action plans
  • Serves as the branch liaison with Wealth Management and Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) representatives
  • Manages assigned member portfolio jointly with specialists like Wealth Management and/or SME
  • Provides financial advice using financial planning tools such as cash-flow and credit management
  • Acts as a mentor for less experienced staff under Branch Manager guidance
  • Serves as the branch's center of expertise for financial calculators, complex credit, and managed portfolio solutions
  • Maintains strong relationships with alliance partners
  • Handles referrals based on member/client request complexity

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education with 5 years of related experience in a financial institution or equivalent combination
  • Minimum 3 years of credit experience, including analysis and knowledge of underwriting
  • CSC or IFIC course completed with the ability to be licensed
  • CFP or PFP designation or currently in progress
  • Minimum 2 years of financial advisory experience and demonstrated relationship-building experience
  • Proven track record in sales

Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of processing/procedures for complex products including deposits, investments, loans, and mortgages
  • Sound knowledge of computer applications including Excel and Word
  • Detailed knowledge and ability to demonstrate sales management techniques
  • Developed writing skills for communicating detailed factual information
  • Sound lending judgment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills to identify, analyze, and resolve complex member issues
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
