About the Role
Provides care for children and infants in a church environment, ensuring their hygiene, safety, and well-being through various activities and direct care.
Responsibilities
- Monitors children and infants' behavior and activities to ensure their health and safety.
- Provides efficient, clean, loving, safe, secure, and healthy care for children's needs.
- Exhibits control of children and applies proper discipline techniques when necessary.
- Prepares and maintains up-to-date records and reports, including attendance and discipline.
- Ensures the accountability, security, and safety of children during activities.
- Reports all accidents to the supervisor accurately and in a timely manner.
- Administers basic first aid as needed and reports health issues to the supervisor.
- Changes diapers and clothes for children and babies to ensure comfort and hygiene.
- Ensures proper hand washing hygiene for self and children during diapering, bathroom assistance, and before/after snacks/feeding.
- Prepares and serves snacks to children.
- Develops activities appropriate for each child's special needs, talents, and age.
- Builds and maintains positive relationships with parents, notifying them and supervisors of progress or incidents.
- Determines and provides appropriate supplies and materials for recreational activities, ensuring children's safety.
- Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through indoor and outdoor learning activities.
- Maintains the appearance, cleanliness, and safety of the nursery/classroom/game room, including disinfecting toys and equipment.
- Ensures classroom equipment is in good condition and used/maintained properly.
- Maintains materials in an orderly fashion and accounts for necessary program supplies.
- Cleans the kitchen, classrooms, tables, and floors according to sanitary standards.
Requirements
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability and willingness to conduct all duties in accordance with the ministry of the organization and its Christian principles.
- Conducts all communications and job duties with the highest level of professionalism.
- Duties usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.
- Moderate amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying children and heavy objects (more than 25 lbs.) frequently.
- Ability to observe children and ensure their safety.
- Work is performed in an indoor and outdoor environment where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of Child Behavior and Development.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of First Aid and C.P.R and ability to ensure the safety of children.
- Ability to ensure the safety, health, and cleanliness of babies and children.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of parents and remain sensitive to their concerns.
- Ability to present a positive and professional image of The Salvation Army.
- Ability to teach children Christian values.
- Ability to plan, develop, and implement effective childhood programs and activities.
