About the Role

The Associate Buyer will assist the Licensed Buyer with the overall merchandising direction of the department, aiming to meet or exceed sales and margin targets. Success requires trend-setting insights derived from competitive intelligence, consumer patterns, and business analysis. This role involves assisting with purchases, negotiating with vendors, and partnering with Merchandise Planners to maximize business opportunities. Collaboration with planning, merchandising, marketing, and store optimization teams is key to providing compelling assortments for the target demographic.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze market trends to establish projected sales patterns.
  • Stay updated on sports team/league/player changes and make recommendations.
  • Review and analyze reports with Merchandisers for opportunities and liabilities.
  • Assist the Buyer in planning product lines and building seasonal product assortments.
  • Attend product meetings and stay informed on current and future trends.
  • Assist the Buyer with financial data preparation for meetings.
  • Collaborate with the Buyer and Planner to analyze buys for maximum results.
  • Manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines while adapting to changing priorities.
  • Assist the Buyer in negotiating favorable terms to maximize sales and profits.
  • Assist the Buyer in developing product selections to optimize sales, profit, and gross margin.
  • Track product delivery dates from vendors and communicate status updates for high-priority shipments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in an applicable field.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in retail and/or e-commerce merchandising required.
  • Prior experience with licensed apparel buying preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of Power BI or similar systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of Oracle PeopleSoft or similar assortment tools preferred.
  • Demonstrates understanding of product, customer, and fashion trends.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with Buyer, peers, and cross-functional teams.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills.
  • Ability to be detailed and organized while prioritizing tight deadlines.
  • Creative and strategic thinker.
  • 10% travel expectations.
