About the Role
The Senior Partnerships Officer will manage and grow a portfolio of foundation partners in Europe, focusing on providing high-quality relationship management and stewardship to encourage continued and increased support. This role involves grants management, including proposal and agreement review, compliance, financial coordination, reporting, and budget tracking. Additionally, the officer will support fundraising efforts from new foundation partners by identifying and cultivating prospects, coordinating across teams to secure significant funding opportunities, and building strong relationships for successful solicitations.
Responsibilities
- Lead account management for assigned partners within the Foundations portfolio in Europe, ensuring strategic development plans for each partnership.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance relationships and encourage increased giving aligned with Mercy Corps' priorities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for partners and donors, responding to inquiries and collaboration opportunities.
- Coordinate with internal teams (desk, finance, compliance, country, programmatic) for agreement reviews, compliance, grant reporting, and budget tracking.
- Maintain accurate and accessible account records in Raiser's Edge and internal drives.
- Ensure understanding and adherence to funding requirements and donor expectations by relevant teams.
- Represent foundation strategies to internal stakeholders.
- Deputize for the Director of Strategic Partnerships (Europe) on key accounts when necessary.
- Lead portfolio expansion through strategic evaluation of funding opportunities aligned with organizational strategy.
- Proactively pursue and cultivate new or lapsed donors to maintain engagement and solicit funds.
- Support cross-team efforts for open call opportunities.
- Review, edit, and project-manage the development of concepts, proposals, reports, pitch decks, and stewardship materials.
- Collaborate with global, regional, and desk programs teams to stay updated on Mercy Corps' priorities and impact.
- Contribute to new business mapping, global event, and conference research and preparation.
- Act as an internal expert on the philanthropic landscape, channeling partner perspectives into proposal development.
- Advocate for the CFT team through regular collaboration and update meetings with programmatic and technical teams.
- Support country and programmatic teams in raising their profile and aligning prospect/partner strategies.
- Effectively represent Mercy Corps to partners and external audiences for fundraising and profile elevation.
Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of demonstrated experience in private fundraising (preferably Foundations) or partnership development in the international development/humanitarian sector.
- Demonstrated experience in stewarding donors leading to the growth of 6-7+-figure partnerships and increased giving values.
- Demonstrated experience in cultivating prospects from cold to warm and securing new business opportunities.
- Demonstrated experience in building long-term strategic partnerships with deepened value, including profile-raising and leveraging partner expertise.
- Strategic thinking skills for engaging and soliciting donors to mobilize funding.
- Excellent writing skills with experience in proposal and report writing for a corporate audience.
- Ability to write compelling funding proposals and donor communications.
- Excellent verbal communication skills, capable of presenting the organization and discussing collaboration opportunities with diverse actors.
- Experience working with various teams to enhance internal collaboration towards a common goal.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- IT-literate with good knowledge of Microsoft Office and databases, including experience managing complex trackers.
- Experience using/managing relationship databases, ideally Raiser's Edge (desirable).
- Must have the right to work in the UK at the time of appointment.
