About the Role

Empress Ambulance Service is seeking a CE South Education Lieutenant to lead continuing education and orientation efforts for their South Division. This role involves coordinating various educational programs, overseeing staff, and mentoring learners to ensure success.

Responsibilities

  • Follow the guidance and direction of the Assistant Director of Education or Director of Operations.
  • Adhere to all Empress EMS policies and procedures.
  • Implement and coordinate training and education requirements, ensuring subordinates' compliance.
  • Interpret and implement compliance with all standards and directives published by NYS DOH BEMS regarding training and education.
  • Serve as a role model and mentor to Adjunct Faculty, Instructors, and fellow staff members.
  • Provide timely support and guidance to Adjunct Faculty and Instructors across all Empress EMS-sponsored courses.
  • Schedule and coordinate student field internship experiences.
  • Develop and oversee the completion of orientation for all incoming employees.
  • Support Empress EMS vehicle operational training and remediation.
  • Identify performance gaps among subordinates and students and provide corrective action and/or remediation.
  • Identify performance gaps among instructors and recommend corrective action plans.
  • Submit all required reports in a timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and peer leadership to employees on EMS training and education matters.
  • Develop and manage the Empress orientation process end-to-end, including coordinating with hiring teams, maintaining records of progression, remediation, and clearance, and recommending candidates not meeting Empress standards to the Assistant Director of Education for potential dismissal.
  • Develop and lead skills verification sessions on a regular basis as staffing needs dictate.
  • Assist with Academy Cadet educational sessions.
  • Continually expand knowledge of current training standards and methods.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a New York State Department of Health Bureau of Emergency Medical Services EMT or Paramedic program.
  • NYS DOH BEMS Certified Lab Instructor certification, if not already held, within 2 years of appointment.
  • AHA Instructor certification preferred at time of appointment; must be obtained within 2 years of appointment.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in direct patient care, including emergency medical treatment and interfacility transport.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience training and educating in Emergency Services or allied health preferred but not required.
  • Previous management or supervisory experience preferred but not required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Empress operational policies, pre-hospital and interfacility patient care practices, and NYS DOH BEMS regulations and standards.
  • Skilled in oral and written communication, training delivery, and remediation of pre-hospital healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to analyze data, prepare reports, and build effective working relationships across a diverse range of EMS personnel, students, and administrators.
  • Must be able to perform the physical demands associated with EMS skills instruction and demonstration, including standing, walking, and lifting or moving training equipment consistent with pre-hospital training scenarios.
