About the Role

Infrastructure Engineering, Inc. (IEI) is seeking an experienced Assistant Resident Engineer for its New York office to work with The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey at JFK Airport. IEI is a prime consulting firm specializing in design engineering, program management, and construction engineering and inspection services, handling projects from conception through implementation. We are a diverse team of civil engineers passionate about solving complex problems.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating with JFK Airport Facility, operations personnel, and other stakeholders to ensure work progresses efficiently while minimizing impacts to airport operations.
  • Assist in reviewing submittals or forwarding them to design staff for technical review.
  • Prepare transmittal letters for accepting or rejecting contractor submittals.
  • Ensure the preparation of accurate and complete work products by monitoring schedules, change orders, and weekly reports.
  • Identify and implement ideas that save the client money or effectively solve potential problems.
  • Review interim work products and provide feedback.
  • Coordinate sub-consultants.
  • Supervise and mentor field staff, ensuring effective monitoring of construction activities.
  • Verify proper installation of work and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Assist in reviewing project plans, specifications, addenda, and ongoing/upcoming field construction activities.
  • Assist in maintaining construction progress and communication with the designated point of contact.
  • Review and approve daily field inspection reports and narratives for accuracy and completeness.
  • Track classified work items, time-and-material (T&M) tickets, and other project records.
  • Prepare Extra Work Orders, Net Cost Change Orders, Field Ordered Work, and associated cost estimates.
  • Maintain logs and records related to employees, work assignments, and inspection activities.
  • Review contractor payment applications for accuracy and contract compliance.
  • Assist the Resident Engineer in preparing monthly reports on project progress and financial status.
  • Proactively identify and elevate potential risks or issues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university or approved equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to support non-standard work hours, including potential night and weekend shifts, and accommodate extended work hours as project needs require.
  • Active registered Professional Engineer license preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Special Inspector, Structural steel bolting inspector, and Work Zone Safety Certifications preferred.
  • Must possess all agency required certifications and security clearances.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Physically capable of walking and moving about on construction sites.
  • Good hand-eye coordination.
  • Occasionally lift/move up to 50 pounds.

Skills

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety certification required.
  • Training in fall protection.
  • Training in Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT).
  • Training in confined space entry.
  • Training in permit-required confined space entry.
  • Proficiency with eBuilder.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
