About the Role
The Maintenance role is responsible for the daily cleaning and security of the school building, proactively addressing facilities issues to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment.
Responsibilities
- Support the cleaning and maintenance of the building.
- Complete daily cleaning checklists and deep cleaning schedules.
- Notify managers of needed major repairs or additions to building systems.
- Secure the building daily by performing a walk-through and ensuring all lights are off.
- Follow procedures for chemical cleaners and power equipment.
- Perform basic electrical, plumbing, and handyman repairs, including painting, fixture re-lamping, and furniture assembly/repair.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance materials and supplies.
- Requisition necessary supplies or equipment.
- Coordinate classroom and building moves, including heavy furniture and equipment.
- Perform all work in accordance with health and safety standards and report hazards.
- Work with minimal supervision and operate effectively within a team.
- Clear walkways and steps of snow and ice, applying safety materials.
- Perform event setup and breakdown, including arranging furniture and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with employees, contractors, and vendors.
- Pivot priorities quickly in a dynamic environment.
- Be on feet for extended periods.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum one-year experience in cleaning, custodial, or janitorial services.
- Employment contingent upon successful completion of all pre-employment requirements, including a background check.
- Must be able to work outdoors with exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
- Must be able to keep students safe from themselves and others.
- Must be able to remove oneself from potentially harmful situations.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and move throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift (at least 50-65 pounds), assist, and/or physically support students.
- Ability to physically intervene when required to ensure safety.
- Ability to remove oneself and/or others from unsafe situations quickly.
- Ability to maintain attention and focus in a dynamic, high-stimulation environment.
- Ability to multi-task and shift priorities quickly.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decision-making, particularly in high-pressure or safety-sensitive situations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain professional relationships.
- Ability to perform duties under stress, including during behavioral escalations.
