About the Role

NYPA is seeking a Senior Nuclear Risk Specialist to identify, assess, monitor, and report on risks across the nuclear portfolio. This role supports robust risk management practices and ensures the business operates within its risk appetite by analyzing potential impacts and likelihoods of various risks.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Enterprise and/or Operational Risk team in facilitating the risk management process.
  • Update and establish risk registers for enterprise, operational, and project risks.
  • Develop standard and custom risk reports for various organizational levels.
  • Lead the development and reporting of Key Risk Metrics.
  • Facilitate the development, implementation, and management of Enterprise and/or Operational Risk policies.
  • Provide support for the Enterprise Governance, Risk, and Compliance (EGRC) software module.
  • Support the EORM Team in developing training materials and conducting EORM education.
  • Confirm alignment of enterprise and operational processes with other key departments.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on nuclear risk, providing training and mentorship.
  • Communicate complex risk concepts to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge of various risk types including Model, Nuclear, Enterprise, Operational, Asset, and Project level risks.
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise-wide Risk management program development and implementation.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet established deadlines.
  • Advanced knowledge of spreadsheets and/or statistical analysis packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, @Risk, MS Visio).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver clear and concise summary and insight.
  • Thorough familiarity with established EORM frameworks (e.g., COSO, ISO31000) and their practical applications.
  • Strong understanding of nuclear generation assets and environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Enterprise and Operational Risk Management best practices in the energy/utility industry.
  • Strong understanding of NYPA’s generating and transmission facilities.
  • Strong understanding of the NYISO energy marketplace.
  • Track industry operating experience (EPRI, NRC), identify emerging risks, and update models.
  • Participate in industry working groups, peer reviews, and risk methodology development.
  • Flexibility to work overtime, as needed.
  • Valid US driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel within NYS (up to 25%).

Salary/Compensations

  • $123,000 - $169,400
