About the Role
This role supports the Property and Facilities Manager by carrying out general maintenance, porterage, and facilities duties across the London and Aylesbury sites. It involves assisting with furniture and equipment movement, undertaking minor repairs, and supporting daily operational needs to ensure buildings remain safe, compliant, and fully operational.
Responsibilities
- Carry out general maintenance, repairs, and odd jobs across the Aylesbury and London sites.
- Undertake minor repairs including decorating, replacing fixtures, assembling furniture, and basic plumbing, carpentry, and maintenance tasks.
- Perform routine inspections of both sites, identifying and reporting defects, hazards, and maintenance requirements.
- Support the coordination of planned and reactive maintenance works, liaising with contractors.
- Assist in maintaining internal and external areas to a high standard of cleanliness, presentation, and safety.
- Provide porterage services, including moving furniture, equipment, archives, deliveries, and office supplies.
- Set up and clear meeting rooms, training rooms, exhibitions, functions, and event spaces.
- Support internal office moves, workstation changes, and departmental relocations.
- Receive, distribute, and store deliveries, ensuring organized and safe stores and warehouse areas.
- Assist with waste management, recycling, and general housekeeping duties.
- Collaborate with the Library and Gallery team to support exhibitions and displays.
- Support the Club team with the preparation, set-up, and breakdown of functions, hospitality events, and other business activities.
- Provide practical porterage and maintenance support to departments for projects and operational requirements.
- Support compliance with health and safety legislation through routine inspections and prompt hazard reporting.
- Assist with statutory compliance activities including fire safety checks, first aid equipment inspections, and water hygiene monitoring.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and report completed works.
- Ensure all work is carried out safely and in accordance with organizational policies.
- Assist with opening and securing buildings.
- Support the management of site security, including access control and contractor access.
- Provide support during emergency situations, building evacuations, and business continuity activities.
- Act as the primary contact for booking events at the Stoneleigh Building, advising on availability and suitability.
- Take messages and verify queries such as feedback and complaints.
- Build and maintain good relationships with internal and external customers.
- Administer bookings from start to finish, including issuing contracts, invoices, and booking forms.
- Notify the Property and Facilities Manager of significant issues related to Stoneleigh and liaise with building maintenance contractors.
- Manage the RKC Educational Trust email inbox.
- Travel regularly between the Aylesbury and London sites.
- Support the Property and Facilities team with projects, office improvements, and operational initiatives.
- Build positive working relationships and provide excellent customer service.
- Provide support for Royal Kennel Club events, exhibitions, and business activities, including occasional evening, weekend, and on-call working.
- Raise Purchase Orders and input them onto the system for approval.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties commensurate with the level of the role.
Requirements
- Experience in a property maintenance, facilities, porter, caretaker, building services, or similar practical role.
- Experience of carrying out general building maintenance and minor repairs.
- Good practical DIY skills, including the safe use of hand and basic power tools.
- Good understanding of workplace health and safety practices.
- Ability to move and handle furniture, equipment, and deliveries safely.
- Good organizational skills with the ability to prioritize a varied workload.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly between the Aylesbury and London sites.
