About the Role
The Morgan Library & Museum seeks a full-time Reading Room Assistant to facilitate researcher access to special and reference collections while ensuring their security and safety. Responsibilities include retrieving, reshelving, and organizing materials, providing handling instructions for rare items, performing reference desk duties, and data entry. This role collaborates closely with colleagues and reports to the Head of Reader Services.

Requirements
- Ability to handle and move heavy books and boxes (25-50 lbs.)
- Ability to wheel carts of books and other collection objects around campus
- Extensive walking, standing, kneeling, stooping, climbing stairs and in narrow spaces
- Ability to work for extended periods on a computer
- Tolerance for moderate levels of dust and odor generated during normal collection management activities, movement of objects, and cleaning

Experience Level
- 2-3 years of previous work experience in a special collections library reading room or other relevant experience desired
Education Level
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Strong background in the humanities (Art History, History, or Literature) with a focus on rare books and manuscripts desired
- ALA-accredited Master’s degree in library, archival, or information studies or equivalent, a plus
- Familiarity with a major Western foreign language desired (French, German, Italian, or Spanish)
