About the Role
Channel 5 is seeking a Media Solutions Engineer to design and protect broadcast and streaming workflows across linear, VOD, FAST, and OTT platforms. This role involves architecture and subject matter expertise at the intersection of engineering, compliance, and revenue protection, shaping how content, metadata, and monetization systems interact.
Responsibilities
- Design end-to-end solutions across linear broadcast, VOD, FAST, OTT, and metadata workflows, ensuring consistency between streaming and linear platforms.
- Document technical architectures for playout, MAM, scheduling, ad-tech, and compliance systems.
- Act as a senior subject matter expert on linear and VOD broadcasting, advising on system behavior, integration constraints, and risks.
- Provide specialist 3rd-line support during incidents affecting revenue, ad-tech performance, or contractual obligations.
- Diagnose issues related to ad classification, insertion, platform matching, and monetization.
- Partner with operations, ad-sales, and technology teams to identify inefficiencies and design improvements.
- Lead or contribute to proofs-of-concept and test new approaches before wider rollout.
- Support delivery teams through testing, go-live, and hyper-care phases.
- Communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders using diagrams, impact assessments, and documentation.
Requirements
- Significant experience as a linear broadcasting subject matter expert, preferably in global and public service broadcaster environments.
- Deep knowledge of Broadcast Management Systems and complex content/metadata workflows.
- 10+ years of experience in VOD/OTT technology, including ad-supported delivery (AVOD/BVOD).
- Strong background in solution architecture, systems integration (including APIs), and change delivery.
- Solid understanding of PSB constraints and regulatory obligations, with the ability to protect revenue-critical workflows.
- Proven track record of resolving complex, high-pressure operational issues quickly and accurately.
- Strong communication skills, adaptable to various audiences.
- A collaborative, practical, and detail-focused approach.
- Sound judgment on technical trade-offs.
- Experience with broadcast management applications (e.g., Mediagenix WhatsOn), MAM, compliance, or playout systems (desirable).
- Comfortable using AI tools to enhance productivity (desirable).
- Experience defining cross-platform workflows that treat streaming and linear equally (desirable).
- Strong documentation skills, including architecture diagrams, impact assessments, and technical writing (desirable).
