About the Role
The Flexi Chef is responsible for the production of all food on the premises, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for children, as well as lunch and a daily smoothie for the nursery team. This role requires a creative cook passionate about celebrating diversity, introducing children to a wide range of foods, and knowledgeable in childhood nutrition and catering for differing allergies and dietary requirements.
Responsibilities
- Cook fresh and inspiring food for children, with occasional weekends.
- Follow nutritionist-designed recipes and menus to ensure optimal vitamin and nutrient levels for children.
- Cater to differing dietary needs of various age groups, adhering to food preparation and choking guidelines.
- Manage children's allergies and dietary requirements, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures to prevent cross-contamination.
- Prepare daily lunch and smoothie for the nursery team, accommodating different dietary needs.
- Complete kitchen paperwork and compliance tasks, including a daily Due Diligence Diary and Cleaning Schedule.
- Manage washing up, ordering food supplies, weekly ordering, and stock rotation.
- Maintain kitchen hygiene to a 5-star Food Hygiene rating standard, complying with Environment Health regulations.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with nursery parents.
- Participate in the nursery Apprentice Chef scheme by mentoring and guiding apprentice chefs.
- Adhere to the company's H&S policy: “Statement of Intent".
- Act as a role model for high standards, provide culinary excellence, and thrive on feedback.
- Confidently manage food handovers at mealtimes, providing accurate allergy details and portion sizes.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a nursery or school commercial-sized kitchen.
- Experience catering for diverse dietary needs.
- Previous experience catering for very young children, with an understanding of food preparation guidelines.
- Experience with Environmental Health inspections.
- Good knowledge of food allergens and child nutrition.
- Ability to work to the nursery budget for each child.
Skills
- Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2 or above (Level 3 to be completed during induction if not held).
