About the Role
As a Staff Engineer at Relevance AI, you will be a core product builder and cross-team technical leader, setting the technical direction for advanced AI capabilities. You will raise the bar for AI engineering and reliability, tackling the company's most critical and high-leverage problems. This is the most senior individual contributor role, offering a chance to define AI-native engineering.
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction on load-bearing decisions for frontier AI products.
- Unblock teams and raise the standard of design and review.
- Deploy onto the hardest problems and ship in days what takes traditional teams months.
- Raise the bar on AI-native engineering practices, defining agentic workflows, context engineering, and eval discipline.
- Own the challenging parts of making autonomous agents trustworthy in production.
- Turn incident patterns into systemic improvements.
- Partner closely with product, design, and customer teams to decide what to build.
- Kill low-value work and ship outcomes that move the needle.
- Interview, mentor, and level up other engineers to multiply their impact.
Requirements
- Operate at the frontier of what is possible with coding agents.
- Use AI in novel ways to decompose problems, orchestrate build-run loops, and implement systemic improvements.
- Keep evaluation and review quality high.
- Think like a product owner and care deeply about building the right thing to meet customer outcomes.
- Talk about who used your product and why it mattered.
- Bring technical depth and strong judgment, particularly in backend, APIs, and distributed systems.
- Make load-bearing decisions.
- Improved teams beyond your own; unblocking others and setting standards.
- Ship continuously, balancing pace with quality.
- Take evals, on-call, and root-cause fixes seriously.
- Raise the standard for people around you.
- Be comfortable with ambiguity and pace.
- Believe a smaller AI-native team can out-build a larger, traditional one.
- Experience in our exact stack is not required.
- Ability to pick up a new stack quickly.
- Deep daily use of AI coding agents as part of your workflow.
