About the Role
WSP in Australia is seeking an experienced Marine Geophysicist to join their Earth and Environment business, supporting the Geotechnics and Tunnels capability. This senior technical role requires deep marine geophysics expertise, strong consulting skills, and the ability to guide clients, project teams, and emerging professionals. The role involves providing technical advice on complex ground engineering issues, delivering best-practice consulting services, and utilizing marine geophysical techniques for data synthesis and analysis to support evidence-based decisions.
Responsibilities
- Lead and support marine geophysical investigations across engineering, geotechnical, and environmental projects.
- Manage, conduct, analyze, and report on overwater and marine geophysical surveys.
- Prepare proposals, tenders, reports, and high-quality technical deliverables.
- Establish project scope, time, and cost management systems for successful project delivery.
- Review the technical quality of work performed by the team.
- Promote a culture of technical excellence.
- Provide marine geophysics support to specialists across other disciplines and offices.
- Mentor junior geophysicists in technical delivery, project management, and client relationships.
Requirements
- Recognized marine geophysics expert with broad experience in marine projects, including port and harbour developments, offshore pipeline and cable routes, and offshore wind investigations.
- Tertiary qualifications in Geophysics or a related discipline.
- Typically 10+ years of marine geophysics experience.
- Proven capability managing marine geophysical investigations from planning through to reporting.
- Expertise in marine geophysical acquisition methods, including bathymetry, sub-bottom profiling, seismic reflection, side-scan sonar, and magnetometer surveys.
- Experience using industry-standard software such as SonarWiz, Hypack, RadexPro, DUG, Kingdom, Qinsy, ReflexW, and Rayfract.
- A passion for mentoring and developing early-career geophysicists.
- A collaborative mindset and ability to work across multidisciplinary teams.
- Current unrestricted Australian driver's licence.
