About the Role

This is a highly visible leadership role with end-to-end ownership of legal matters impacting our platform products, including MLC Expand, IDPS and Managed Discretionary Accounts (MDAs). You'll provide commercially pragmatic legal advice across the full product lifecycle, influencing strategic business decisions while ensuring our products continue to meet legal and regulatory obligations and deliver positive outcomes for members and clients.

Responsibilities

Lead legal advice across a broad range of platform matters, including product design, enhancements, closures and strategic product initiatives
Manage Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), Significant Event Notices (SENs), disclosure obligations and marketing communications
Oversee Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) and Target Market Determinations (TMDs)
Handle retail insurance arrangements, insurer negotiations and administration agreements
Manage AFCA matters and member complaints
Address regulatory change impacting platform products
Provide legal advice on incidents, breaches and governance matters
Support product funding initiatives
Advise on custody arrangements, omnibus accounts and investment mandates
Negotiate key platform and service provider agreements
Manage major platform transactions, migrations and strategic projects
Lead, develop, and mentor a team of legal professionals while building capability across the function

Requirements

A Bachelor of Laws and current legal practising qualifications
10+ years' experience within financial services, with significant experience across superannuation, platforms or investments
Deep knowledge of the Australian financial services with a focus on superannuation, investments and platforms regulatory environment
Strong technical expertise across legal issues affecting platform products and structures
Proven ability to influence senior executives and provide commercially focused legal advice
Experience leading, developing and mentoring high-performing legal teams
Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation
Experience managing external legal advisers and negotiating commercial outcomes
Ability to balance multiple priorities and deliver high-quality advice in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia
Undertake police and basic credit checks as a condition of employment
