About the Role
This senior leadership opportunity is responsible for the legal oversight of retail Master Trust and employer superannuation products. You will provide commercially focused legal advice across the full product lifecycle, supporting strategic initiatives, regulatory change, and governance within a leading superannuation business. You will also lead and develop a team of legal professionals, fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic legal advice on product design, enhancements, successor fund transfers (SFTs), closures, and ongoing product initiatives.
- Advise on Product Disclosure Statements (PDSs), Significant Event Notices (SENs), disclosure obligations, and marketing communications.
- Manage Design and Distribution Obligations (DDO) and Target Market Determinations (TMDs).
- Address regulatory change impacting retail Master Trust and employer superannuation products.
- Handle incident and breach triage, escalation, and legal risk management.
- Oversee default group insurance arrangements, insurer negotiations, contract renewals, and administration agreements.
- Ensure SPS 250 compliance and insurance governance.
- Manage AFCA matters and member complaints.
- Advise on trust law matters, family law matters, and product funding initiatives.
- Oversee RSE Licence (RSEL) delegation policies and governance.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing legal team while driving capability across the function.
Requirements
- A Bachelor of Laws and current legal practising qualifications.
- 10+ years of experience in a senior legal role within the superannuation or financial services sector.
- Strong expertise in trust law and the Australian superannuation regulatory framework.
- Extensive experience advising on legal issues affecting retail Master Trust and employer superannuation products.
- Demonstrated ability to influence senior executives and provide commercially pragmatic legal advice.
- Proven leadership experience, with a track record of developing and mentoring legal teams.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels of the organisation.
- Experience managing external legal advisers and third-party stakeholders and negotiating complex commercial outcomes.
- Ability to balance competing priorities and deliver high-quality advice in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
- Eligibility to work in Australia.
- Willingness to undertake police and basic credit checks.
