About the Role

The Endoscopy Associate performs direct patient care activities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse and an attending physician, following departmental guidelines and policies.

Responsibilities

• Performs and records patient's vital signs.
• Documents intake and output.
• Reports changes in patient condition or abnormal values to the registered nurse.
• Sets up equipment and assists with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
• Downloads patient information from Bravo and 24 hr. ph into appropriate database.
• Checks equipment function for use during procedures.
• Cleans, disinfects, and/or sterilizes equipment according to Infection Control guidelines.
• Maintains processing machines with scheduled filter changes.
• Troubleshoots equipment and scope problems and arranges for repairs.
• Performs clinical procedures such as specimen collection, EKG, and post-mortem care.
• Prepares specimens by labeling and entering information in log book.
• Assists patient with activities of daily living and ambulation.
• Applies heat and cold applications when necessary.
• Maintains a safe, clean, and functional environment.
• Assists in transport of patients when needed.
• Maintains travel carts with appropriate supplies and ensures equipment is in working order.
• Maintains isolation status for patients under direction of an RN.
• Performs and documents critical alarm checks on refrigerators, call bells, and eyewash stations.
• Tests designated procedure rooms for negative pressure.
• Performs daily inventory of supplies and places orders.
• Removes outdated supplies.
• Obtains and assembles supplies.
• Maintains supply of nutrition.
• Generates reports as needed.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Completes required competency for the G. I. Technical Specialist module.
• Completes ten hours of continuing education units per year.
• Participates in staff development activities and staff meetings.
• Participates in exchange of patient report and nursing care conferences.
• Participates in the Department of Nursing Quality Improvement Program/activities.
• Demonstrates a humanistic, responsible, kind and caring attitude.
• Adheres to dress code.
• Maintains attendance and punctuality record.
• Assumes other responsibilities as assigned.
• Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and departmental policies and completes annual mandatory competencies.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the Patients Bill of Rights.
• Greets visitors and answers telephones promptly and courteously.
• Escorts visitors to appropriate area.
• Provides information as appropriate.
• Strips units/cubicles.
• Performs discharge bed making.
• Performs room turn-around by cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces.

Requirements

• HS/GED required.
• College courses in sciences preferred.
• Familiarity with standard concepts, practices of endoscopic clinical procedures preferred.
• Successful completion of on-site preparation program or job training.
• Must be certified as a Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor within six months of hire.
• Heartsaver Certification issuing agency: American Heart Association.
