About the Role

La Scuola International seeks Preschool/Early Childhood Education Assistant Teachers with knowledge and interest in Reggio Emilia approach, International Baccalaureate (IB) Early Years, and Italian Language Immersion. The ideal candidate is a proactive, flexible team player who can support and implement the daily program under the supervision of school leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure students are joyfully and safely engaged in classroom activities and outdoor play.
  • Support head teacher(s) and specialists with overall classroom management and supervision.
  • Collaborate with the teaching team to work with children in small groups and individually, and to plan and implement lessons.
  • Guide student behavior patiently and supportively.
  • Provide age-appropriate social-emotional instruction and support to students.
  • Organize and set up the classroom environment, equipment, and materials for various activities.
  • Manage children and systems during nap, play, class, lunch, and outdoor time.
  • Communicate observations and insights to Head Teacher(s) and support weekly classroom documentation.
  • Maintain an encouraging and positive attitude with students and colleagues.

Requirements

  • Early Childhood Development Course Completion (or in progress), or 2+ years experience working with young children.
  • Completion of 4 core Early Childhood Education (ECE) classes: Introduction to the Field of Child Development, Child Growth and Development, Child, Family and Community, and Curriculum for Young Children.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Education preferred.
  • Bilingual and bi-literate in Italian and English with native or near-native Italian proficiency.
  • Assistant teachers will be required to complete 12 units of Childhood Development during the first year of employment.
  • Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia approach, International Baccalaureate (IB) Early Years framework or inquiry/project based approach and teaching within an Italian language immersion model.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment that prioritizes reflection and fosters growth.
  • Ability to be open-minded, creative, and a curious learner.
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal, and ability to present in public.
  • Strong time management skills including consistent attendance, punctuality, ability to meet deadlines and participation in school life.
  • Ability to find joy in working with all children and differentiate learning.
  • Dedication to being an active, enthusiastic member of the La Scuola community.

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must provide documentation to prove eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Final candidates will need to pass Fingerprint Clearance and a physical exam.
  • Must provide a recent copy of a negative TB test and other immunization records.
