About the Role
This role offers an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic, collaborative team dedicated to supporting youth and families in the community. You will work closely with children and their families, providing hands-on interventions like skill-building, training, and education to help them achieve their treatment goals. This position allows you to gain valuable clinical experience while helping youth and families build essential life skills, strengthen relationships, and engage in meaningful activities.
Responsibilities
- Work flexible schedules as skill-building activities may occur at any time, provided they do not interfere with a child's educational activities.
- Model and practice sensitivity, fair treatment, and acceptance of diversity in all interactions.
- Design and implement activities to help children acquire and enhance fundamental skills.
- Participate with the child in communication, daily living activities, problem-solving, money management, and maladaptive behavior elimination.
- Integrate educational and/or vocational goals and services with team tasks, providing assistance throughout vocational service phases.
- Develop service plans as part of a team to address child needs regarding crisis prevention that could lead to deterioration or institutional care.
- Motivate the child to engage in meaningful activities, both in and out of sessions, to improve overall functioning.
- Assist the child and family/caregiver in acquiring, developing, and using functional skills for success in home, school, and community environments.
- Assist child/youth in developing independent living skills and accessing vocational skills training.
- Supervise the child and engage them in recreational activities that support constructive interests and abilities.
- Conduct psycho-education sessions (one-on-one or group) with the child and/or family/caregiver.
- Conduct scheduled and unscheduled visits to the family/caregiver environment to monitor crisis management and/or behavior management activities.
- Interact and engage with other children in appropriate developmental or community activities, such as healthcare appointments, vocational opportunities, or other community engagements outlined in a support plan.
Requirements
- Must have means of transportation to travel throughout the Western New York area.
- Must possess a valid New York State driver's license.
- Must be flexible to meet the needs of children and families in their homes.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Must possess adequate computer and oral communication skills.
