About the Role

The Substance Abuse Counselor (SAC) is responsible for delivering and implementing long-term supervision, support, and clinical services to adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems who have chemically dependent issues. The SAC will be an integral part of the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform initial and ongoing screening of residents and their property per unit procedure.
  • Facilitate group counseling sessions professionally, ethically, and compassionately.
  • Supervise clients during self-medication under direct supervision.
  • Communicate all relevant information, incidents, and emergencies through the SAC communication log, incident reports, and to the 24-hour on-call supervisor.
  • Provide crisis intervention and follow-up, including documenting incidents, accidents, and elopements.
  • Oversee and manage the client population in facilitating the daily house schedule.
  • Facilitate service groups.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Possess CASAC-T; CASAC, or higher is preferred.
  • One year of experience working with clients with substance abuse disorders.
  • One year of experience working with adolescents with co-occurring and mental health problems.
  • One year of experience working in an OASAS-funded facility is a plus.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to providing quality services and achieving outcome-driven performance measures.
  • Possess excellent organizational management skills, with the ability to coach staff, manage and develop high-performance clinicians, and set/achieve program objectives.
  • Exhibit strong networking and public relations skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, populations, and cultures.
  • Approach program planning with an action-oriented, adaptable, and innovative mindset.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with diverse groups of people.
