About the Role

Manage engineering design teams that perform investigation, analysis, and examination of existing buildings as it relates to plumbing and fire-protection systems. Deliver practical and successful designs that respond to site constraints, sustainability targets, budget considerations, and constructability requirements. Review calculations, design, construction administration, and inspections of staff for completion of project activities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage technical and administrative aspects of plumbing and fire-protection design service opportunities from proposal preparation to final acceptance by Client, including invoice and accounts/receivable.
  • Review assessment information gathered during site investigations and comment on technical reports, ensuring clarity and grammatical correctness for the client.
  • Lead plumbing/fire-protection engineering design across various projects, including multifamily, commercial, industrial, and retail.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, mechanical, structural, fire/life safety, and project management.
  • Supervise staff designers and engineers to produce schematic, filing, and construction designs/layouts adhering to NYC DOB, DEP, HPD, and HMC codes/regulations.
  • Prepare drawings, specifications, bidding documents, and related submissions in alignment with applicable codes, standards, and best practices.
  • Inspect contractor and staff work to ensure construction activities adhere to contract documents and prepare summary documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with external clients, contractors, vendors, consultants, and city/state construction/energy agencies.
  • Maintain project schedules, change orders, and budgets, ensuring adequate staffing and adherence to client agreements.
  • Manage individual project budgets and assist the accounting department with invoicing.
  • Mentor junior staff members with technical guidance, project processes, feedback, and recognition.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field.
  • Minimum 7 years of professional experience designing plumbing and fire-protection systems across a range of project types for both existing and new buildings.
  • Experience working within New York City regulatory environments.
  • Proficiency in Revit MEP and AutoCAD for mentoring junior engineer drafting tasks.
  • Experience with industry-recognized calculations for mentoring junior staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Confident presenter with sound commercial awareness.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines.
