About the Role
Join the Customer Support Technology (CS Platform) team building the systems that power eBay’s global customer service experience. This is a full-stack engineering role where you will build scalable backend services and APIs, develop user-facing web applications and agent tools, and contribute to AI-powered platform capabilities. You will work on workflow systems, automation platforms, and UI experiences that improve agent productivity and customer outcomes. This is a hands-on IC role with approximately 60–70% coding/design and 30–40% reviews, collaboration, and operational excellence. You’ll own features end-to-end (UI → services → data → actions).
Responsibilities
- Design and build end-to-end features (UI + backend services)
- Develop scalable APIs and user-facing web applications
- Build and enhance agent tools, workflow engines, and automation platforms
- Contribute to AI-powered capabilities, including agent orchestration, MCP layers and workflows, intent-to-action systems
- Write high-quality, well-tested code across the stack
- Improve performance, scalability, and reliability
- Participate in on-call rotations (follow-the-sun model)
- Collaborate with Product, SRE, and cross-functional teams
- Review code, write design docs, and improve engineering practices
- Reduce tech debt and drive operational improvements
- Mentor junior engineers or lead small workstreams
Requirements
- BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
- 4–8 years of full-stack software development experience
- Strong proficiency in Java (11+) and Spring Boot
- Experience building REST APIs and distributed systems
- Familiarity with Kafka or similar messaging systems
- Experience with SQL + NoSQL databases
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
- Experience with React, Angular, or similar frameworks
- Experience building responsive, performant web applications
- Understanding of API integration and async UI patterns
- Experience with CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes
- Strong testing practices (unit, integration, frontend testing)
- Solid debugging and problem-solving skills
- Experience with customer support or workflow systems
- Familiarity with state management (Redux, etc.)
- Exposure to observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk)
- Experience with OAuth2/OIDC and secure application design
- Exposure to AI/agent-based systems, including prompt engineering, orchestration frameworks, tool/agent integration patterns
- General familiarity with AI-assisted development concepts (LLMs, prompts, agent workflows)
- Interest in building and evolving AI-powered systems such as orchestration layers, automation agents, and intent-driven workflows
