About the Role

This student position will support the City of London’s waste diversion programs and services, assisting with day-to-day operations, project-based work, community outreach, and data collection.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct observational audits of waste material set out by residents.
  • Distribute program information and schedules door-to-door.
  • Conduct site visits to gather information and provide updates.
  • Manage inventory of collection containers and transport items.
  • Assist with organizing, cleaning, and maintaining storage facilities.
  • Support day-to-day operations, including container and cart replacements.
  • Perform general observation, data collection, and analysis from audits, site visits, and events.
  • Conduct research on waste management technologies and programs.
  • Engage in outreach activities to promote waste diversion programs.
  • Assist in producing media to promote waste management services.
  • Support workshops, presentations, and outreach events.
  • Report regularly on completed work, documenting outcomes and recommendations.
  • Respond to and investigate resident inquiries and complaints via email, in person, and by phone.
  • Perform deliveries of printed materials and containers.
  • Undertake other assigned Waste Management duties.

Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with public outreach, customer service, and community engagement is an asset.
  • Experience and comfort presenting to large and small groups.
  • Demonstrates initiative and strong organizational skills, effectively prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be returning to full-time academic studies in January 2027 and/or require this student placement to graduate.
  • Must obtain a Criminal Record Check (CRC).
