About the Role
Stony Brook Medicine is seeking valuable Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to provide life support services and transport patients in need of emergency hospital care. EMTs will offer basic life support in out-of-hospital settings, assisting with advanced medical care and coordinating transport. This position is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS), offering a pathway to permanent, non-competitive employment.
Responsibilities
- Assists Emergency Medical Technician (Paramedic) and other medical care providers in the provision of advanced level medical care.
- Coordinates transport; operates the ambulance; maintains transportation equipment and assures the availability of adequate supplies.
- Provides administrative support to the Emergency Services Coordinator as needed.
- Performs other duties as related to the Emergency Medical Service transportation service as assigned.
Requirements
- New York State Health Department certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
- Appropriate New York State driver’s license for the type of vehicle to be operated.
- Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
- Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
- Successfully complete a 4 panel drug screen.
- Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre employment screenings.
- Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
