About the Role

You’ll be joining CIBC’s Core Banking and Payments Technology Team, at the heart of CIBC’s digital transformation, building easy, flexible, and personalized banking solutions to enhance client experience and change the way that people bank. As an Application Developer, you’ll assist in developing, testing, and supporting the implementation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems. Within a team of senior team members, you’ll broaden your technical skills and help build the bank of the future.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in developing, testing, and supporting the implementation of cross-functional, multi-platform application systems.
  • Design, develop, and maintain backend services and REST APIs using Go and Java.
  • Develop code and test computer programs for complex assignments related to payments.
  • Review, analyze, and modify programming systems, including encoding, testing, and debugging.
  • Build full-stack solutions that integrate with multiple systems, data sources, and external APIs.
  • Participate in the technical design, development, and integration of cross functional, multi-platform application systems.
  • Perform and coordinate complex solution design activities.
  • Understand business requirements and translate them into system and application design aligned with the technology roadmap.
  • Design and document technical functionality, infrastructure, interfaces, and integrations.
  • Lead the design of cost-effective and innovative solutions to meet business objectives and operational efficiency goals.
  • Lead and coach a high performing group team of individuals via indirect reporting.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate to come up with effective solutions to problems.
  • Work closely with clients and business partners to develop, test, and implement application programs.
  • Advise application owners on technology possibilities and requirements to impact and improve the business.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience related to payment systems specific to card issuing.
  • Familiarity with VISA/Mastercard network and card transaction lifecycle.
  • Experience working on vendor products (writing requirements, validating the solution).
  • Experience in software development, preferably using Go Lang.
  • Strong knowledge of relational databases (e.g., Azure PostgreSQL, Azure SQL, Oracle) including schema design, query tuning, and migrations.
  • 8+ years of experience integrating APIs and event-driven systems (e.g., Solace).
  • Proficient with Bash, PowerShell and optionally Python.
  • Familiarity with mTLS, JWT, and secure API design practices.
  • Understanding of OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Splunk, or similar monitoring and tracing frameworks.
  • Familiarity of Git and collaborative development workflows.
  • Experience in performance tuning and capacity planning of distributed systems.
  • Must be legally eligible to work at the specified location(s).
  • May be asked to complete an attribute-based assessment and other skills tests (e.g., simulation, coding, French proficiency).
