About the Role

The Senior Analyst, Audience & Content Analytics will lead analytics efforts to understand audience demand across platforms for major planned and breaking news moments. This role bridges Audience Strategy, Editorial, Social, Product, Revenue, and Partnerships to translate audience behavior into actionable insights for coverage planning, distribution strategy, resource allocation, and post-event learning.

Responsibilities

  • Own CNN's analysis framework for major planned and breaking events, including sizing, benchmarking, monitoring, and evaluation across platforms.
  • Develop repeatable methodologies for event opportunity sizing, audience demand expectations, event impact measurement, and cross-event comparisons.
  • Partner with Editorial, Audience Strategy, Product, Social, Revenue, and Partnerships teams to translate event insights into decisions.
  • Build a clear point of view on which events create lasting audience value versus short-term traffic spikes.
  • Support planning for major anticipated moments such as elections, debates, court decisions, international conflicts, natural disasters, cultural tentpoles, sports tentpoles, and other high-impact news cycles.
  • Provide forward-looking reads on expected audience demand, likely discovery paths, audience composition, distribution opportunities, and potential revenue implications.
  • Serve as the audience analytics lead during major breaking events, delivering rapid, well-bounded insights.
  • Create pre-event, live-event, and post-event views that connect audience behavior to business decisions.
  • Build and maintain event benchmarks for comparing current performance against historical moments, peer coverage patterns, baselines, and audience expectations.
  • Define consistent event measurement standards, including audience scale, acquisition, referral mix, engagement opportunity, return behavior, and platform-specific impact.
  • Identify instrumentation gaps, taxonomy needs, data quality issues, or methodological risks that limit event performance understanding.
  • Develop an institutional event knowledge base to capture and reuse learnings from major moments.
  • Translate complex event performance into clear implications for senior stakeholders.
  • Present insights in concise, decision-oriented formats.
  • Partner with leaders across Audience Analytics and sibling analytics teams to ensure event intelligence complements other strategic areas.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in audience analytics, digital analytics, news analytics, business intelligence, data science, or similar analytical roles.
  • Strong experience translating complex behavioral data into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and experience working with large, complex digital audience datasets.
  • Experience working with editorial, audience strategy, product, growth, social, revenue, or other cross-functional stakeholder teams.
  • Ability to operate effectively in fast-moving, high-pressure news environments while keeping analysis accurate, appropriately scoped, and decision-oriented.
  • Strong analytical storytelling skills, including experience building executive-ready presentations, summaries, or briefings.
  • Experience developing reusable measurement frameworks, benchmarks, or recurring analytical methods.
  • Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on analytical problem solving in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with digital media, publishing, news, social distribution, audience development, or live event coverage.
  • Experience with forecasting, benchmarking, cohort analysis, audience segmentation, or event-based performance measurement.
  • Experience working with dbt, modern data modeling practices, or analytics engineering workflows.
  • Proficiency in Python or other statistical scripting languages.
