About the Role
As an Associate Patient Care Coordinator at Optum, you will be an integral part of our vision to make healthcare better for everyone. You will be responsible for completing set processes and protocols, working cooperatively with the care team to support the organization's vision and mission, deliver excellent customer service, and adhere to Lean processes. You will support the team in meeting financial, clinical, and service goals.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and conduct check-in process, collecting or verifying demographic information.
- Load or update insurance information.
- Confirm and schedule appointments.
- Verify eligibility and authorization and flag appointments accordingly.
- Scan insurance cards.
- Follow payment security policies and procedures.
- Post payments received in the practice management system and provide receipts.
- Answer incoming phone calls, direct calls, and take messages.
- Maintain a work queue list and complete pending actions such as referrals and scheduling.
- Float to other locations as needed.
- Schedule appointments using approved scheduling guidelines.
- Be cross-trained for medical assistant duties.
- Use call processing and EHR functionality to take messages and communicate with clinicians.
- Monitor daily reminder call logs and conduct outreach to patients.
- Monitor administrative tasks in the EHR and respond timely.
- Scan and index documents into the EHR, ensuring necessary documents are available in advance of patient visits.
- Assist coworkers to ensure smooth office operation and excellent service delivery.
- Demonstrate respect for patients and staff, maintaining a friendly demeanor and patient confidentiality.
- Be cross-trained between departments and become proficient in the assigned department.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- 1+ years of computer proficiency in Microsoft Office
- 1+ years of customer service or Healthcare related experience
- Ability to cover other offices if needed
- Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC)
- Knowledge of Medical terms
- 1+ years of experience working in a medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
- Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others
- Candidates are required to pass a drug test before beginning employment.
