About the Role

Patient Access Representatives at Stony Brook Medicine are integral to the Revenue Cycle, Compliance, and Patient Experience. They perform diverse and specialized duties in Registration, Financial Screening, and Verification to ensure efficient patient throughput. This role requires excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and a strong understanding of patient care, with the ability to make ethical decisions and uphold high standards of excellence.

Responsibilities

Completing inpatient registrations, including demographic, regulatory information, signatures, and insurance eligibility confirmation.
Reviewing registrations for completeness and accuracy, and providing support to other registration areas as needed.
Ensuring compliance with regulations, including obtaining necessary consents and signatures from patients or their designees.
Providing information on financial care counseling resources to self-pay patients.
Assisting with audits of regulatory documents and signatures.
Maneuvering a workstation on wheels through patient rooms in designated registration areas like the emergency department and inpatient units.
Professionally interacting with all hospital and clinical staff.
Promoting a positive experience in all patient encounters.

Requirements

Associate's Degree with one year of experience in healthcare, hospitality, or a related industry.
Alternatively, two years of demonstrated excellence in a patient-facing healthcare role (e.g., medical office) in lieu of a degree.
Excellence in verbal and written communication, computing, and multitasking skills.
Demonstrated experience and expertise in speaking with customers and working effectively with individuals under stress.
Strong PC experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Must be able to work some holidays.
Pass days are variable and weekend availability is required.
Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance.
Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
