About the Role

The Department of Orthopedics at Rochester Regional Health is seeking an additional Physician Assistant to join their growing Sports Medicine team. This hybrid role involves caring for patients across the system, including inpatient rounding, first assisting in the operating room, and managing outpatient office visits. This is an opportunity to care for athletes and active individuals with sports-related injuries and musculoskeletal conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a complete history and problem-focused examination, establishing a working diagnosis of non-operative and operative orthopedic conditions.
  • Interpret x-rays and other diagnostic studies.
  • Order appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  • Develop treatment plans for optimal patient medical management, ordering consultations and interacting with other specialty medical teams.
  • First assist orthopedic surgical cases to enhance efficiency, continuity, and quality of surgical care.
  • Provide high-quality, patient-focused perioperative care for orthopedic surgery patients.
  • Provide bedside treatments such as joint injections.
  • Respond to and manage acute care needs of hospitalized orthopedic patients.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of patient care to patient, family, and healthcare team.
  • Educate and encourage patients to become active participants in their healthcare.
  • Provide patient education materials related to diagnosis, treatment plans, and follow-up care.
  • Prescribe medication, write orders, perform procedures, and respond to emergency and/or acute condition changes.
  • Thoroughly and concisely document all patient encounters, progress notes, orders, prescriptions, and test results.
  • Actively contribute to quality reporting metrics and participate in Grand Rounds, APP Council Meetings, unit meetings, and M&M presentations.
  • Demonstrate professional practice behavior, including preceptor/mentoring and education of students and staff.
