About the Role
The Cashier will help create a welcoming café experience for students, staff, and guests at the Mona Campbell Square Café, supporting the daily rhythm of the NBS community by serving food and beverages, processing transactions, and maintaining café organization.
Responsibilities
- Help open and close café operations by stocking, replenishing, organizing, and preparing service areas.
- Prepare and serve coffee, baked goods, sandwiches, salads, snacks, and beverages.
- Operate the cash register and accurately process cash, debit, and credit transactions.
- Maintain transaction records, reconcile cash, and assist with preparing deposits.
- Provide friendly, efficient, and professional customer service.
- Help maintain clean, organized, and sanitary café and dining areas.
- Monitor café supplies and ensure service areas remain stocked and organized.
- Follow health & safety procedures and support a safe and welcoming environment.
- Balance multiple tasks throughout shifts, including customer service, restocking, cleaning, and cashier responsibilities.
- Support the team and contribute to the success of the Food Services Department.
- Take on other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Grade 12 education or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years' experience providing excellent customer service.
- Previous experience operating cash registers and point of sale systems preferred.
- Food Handler Certificate and Smart Serve Certification are considered assets.
- Strong numerical, organizational, and basic computer skills.
- Confidence in handling cash and payment transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Ability to multitask, stay organized, and thrive in a fast-paced school and café environment.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a friendly and professional approach.
- Comfortable interacting with school-aged children, students, staff, and guests.
- Knowledge of food service practices, food handling, and point of sale systems.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to problem-solve in a busy environment.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to jump in wherever needed.
- Must supply Canada’s National Ballet School with a Police Reference Check.
