About the Role
This role is for a detail-oriented Purchasing Specialist who enjoys building supplier relationships, coordinating purchasing activities, and ensuring materials are available to support production within a collaborative manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
- Create, issue, and manage purchase orders for raw materials and product samples using multiple business systems.
- Communicate with suppliers to confirm pricing, lead times, product availability, and order status.
- Monitor purchase orders to ensure timely deliveries and proactively address potential delays.
- Resolve pricing discrepancies, receiving issues, quality concerns, freight claims, and supplier performance issues.
- Maintain accurate landed costs and purchasing information within company systems.
- Collaborate closely with Research & Development, Planning, Production, Sales, Receiving, and Quality teams to understand material requirements and support production schedules.
- Establish and maintain appropriate safety stock levels and reorder points to optimize inventory and improve on-time delivery performance.
- Maintain the product sampling database and ensure all information is accurate and up to date.
- Obtain freight quotations and coordinate transportation costs for imported raw materials.
- Support sourcing initiatives and provide administrative assistance to the purchasing team as required.
- Complete additional purchasing and clerical duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related discipline.
- 1-3 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain, preferably within a food manufacturing environment.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with the ability to interpret purchasing, inventory, and cost data.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Proven problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve purchasing challenges effectively.
- Experience using purchasing, inventory management, or ERP systems.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Commitment to ethical purchasing practices and maintaining data integrity.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience working with Oracle or another ERP system is considered an asset.
