About the Role

The Career Education Teacher will design, implement, and deliver Career Education content for middle and high school students, guiding them in developing their academic potential, transition planning, and career decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a motivating curriculum for middle and high school students.
• Modify lesson plans and materials to suit students' current learning levels.
• Integrate technology (Schoology, Google, and CDOS Online) into the classroom.
• Develop teaching and learning materials, including lesson plans, exams, homework, and assignments.
• Maintain and document employment profiles and career plans for students.
• Maintain relationships with families and legal guardians to inform them of student progress.
• Work individually with students to support their decision-making process for pathways.
• Supervise students outside of the classroom during field trips, transition programs, vocational programs, or school events.
• Collaborate with the Career and Transition Coordinator on students' transition plans and pathways.
• Work with the Career and Transition Coordinator to implement an annual Career Fair.
• Monitor and track student progress and issue grades.
• Conduct and submit Career Education IEPs and Transition Plans for students aged 14 and up.
• Collaborate with other teachers and administrators, including related service providers, to offer individualized student support.
• Collaborate with other teachers to share best practices and provide feedback.
• Create and enforce a positive learning culture of respect and rapport.
• Demonstrate commitment to the school's purpose, vision, and mission.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Experience working with a diverse group of students.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with colleagues, parents, and students.
• American Sign Language (ASL) proficiency.
• Knowledge of work-based learning.
• Required clearances include medical clearance, fingerprinted by the NYC Board of Ed, SCR, and SEL clearance.
• Ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods.
• Ability to lift 15 pounds at times.

Education Level

• Master’s degree in Deaf Education or related field.
• Current New York State Teaching Certification.
