About the Role
The Urban League of Rochester seeks a Job Developer/Apprenticeship Coordinator for Workforce Development programs. These programs offer TASC preparation, construction training, personal development, and job placement assistance to disadvantaged out-of-school youth aged 18-24.
Responsibilities
- Provide individualized academic and vocational counseling and guide participants in developing career pathways.
- Recruit participants interested in apprenticeship opportunities.
- Facilitate direct placement into apprenticeship opportunities.
- Develop relationships with employers and apprenticeship programs.
- Conduct work readiness training with participants.
- Organize employer advisory group meetings.
- Develop private sector job positions suited to applicant needs.
- Assess participant skill levels and provide counseling for realistic employment plans.
- Secure job descriptions and match individuals' skills to job requirements.
- Schedule employment interviews for participants.
- Conduct follow-up on placements to determine progress and retention.
- Provide follow-up counseling after job placement as needed.
- Maintain records for effective referral and placement.
- Complete progress tracking reports.
- Attend Urban League of Rochester events and fundraising functions.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Ability to relate to, communicate with, and work with a diverse population and understand their issues.
- Ability to relate well with others, be a team player with a positive attitude.
- Assertive and able to communicate effectively with trainees and company personnel.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel.
- Customer service oriented.
- Able to tolerate and handle stressful situations calmly and professionally.
- Knowledge of available community resources is a plus.
Experience Level
- At least two years of experience in a related area, including administrative and employment background, preferred.
Education Level
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, education, public administration, or related social science field preferred.
