About the Role

The Crisis Services Advocate position assists the Shelter Manager and the Anew Center Program Director in delivering Anew Center programs and services, which include the Residential Domestic Violence Program-Agnes Home, the Non-Residential Domestic Violence Program, and the Rape Crisis Program in Chautauqua County.

Responsibilities

  • Read and be familiar with The Salvation Army Employee Handbook and the Anew Center policy and procedure manual.
  • Approve client admission into shelter according to policy and procedure and complete intake information, including the DHHS application.
  • Provide care for shelter residents to ensure safety and basic needs are met.
  • Ensure shelter rules are followed according to policy and procedure.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shelter and resident rooms, including sorting donations, laundry, and organizing supplies.
  • Assist in food preparation and housekeeping duties.
  • Answer the Domestic Violence/Rape Crisis phone lines, including the 24-hour hotline.
  • Assess needs, offer information and referrals, and provide crisis intervention to shelter residents and hotline clients.
  • Conduct a “walk through” of the shelter each shift.
  • Complete service reports, track statistics, and other assigned paperwork.
  • Provide Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence emergency advocacy and accompaniment services after completing required training.
  • Attend a minimum of 10 hours of training annually.
  • Transport clients to shelter and appointments as directed.
  • Assure compliance with fire and safety procedures.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Communicate pertinent operational information to supervisors.
  • Attend staff meetings and educational/training seminars.
  • Participate in agency events upon request.
  • Serve as a Mandated Reporter and report incidents of child abuse/neglect.
  • Understand that meals are on-the-job with no meal period deduction from shift hours, unless prior arrangements are made and documented.
  • Understand that coverage for other shifts may be required due to the agency's 24-hour service.
  • Understand that additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Requirements

  • Must satisfactorily complete sexual assault training to be a certified rape crisis counselor.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license meeting The Salvation Army insurance requirements.
  • Must have computer/typing skills for statistics, case files, and email communication.
  • Must have the ability to climb stairs and carry supplies to and from upper levels.
