About the Role

L3Harris is seeking a dynamic technical leader to drive EO/IR solutions design, development, and production. This role involves engineering responsibilities for the definition, design, development, integration, and testing of electro-optic systems for airborne and ground imaging surveillance systems. The position requires both programmatic and technical leadership to deliver innovative solutions within schedule and budget constraints.

Responsibilities

  • Lead one or more cross-functional teams typically with 4-10 members.
  • Deliver to program cost and schedule goals.
  • Plan and request team members in support of current and projected programs.
  • Help define total systems design, technology, and processes to meet mission requirements.
  • Coordinate across functional engineering areas to design, develop, and test products, resolving compatibility and interface problems across all subsystems.
  • Perform project capacity planning in conjunction with other project leaders and functional managers.
  • Utilize department capabilities such as Simulation, Modeling, Design, Agile Development, Integration & Test.
  • Support business development activities including bid & proposal cost/schedule generation.
  • Evaluate performance measures and ensure system requirements are met.
  • Perform subsystem integration, technical risk assessment, technical planning, verification and validation, and supportability analyses.
  • Understand, implement, and audit engineering processes on programs and projects.
  • Create and update essential engineering documents including processes, specifications, reports, plans, technical memos, and presentations.
  • Represent the engineering organization both internally and externally.
  • Communicate clearly (written and verbal) to technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Obtain US government clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

Skills

  • Management of engineering projects
  • Broad knowledge of Risk Management tools and techniques
  • Skilled knowledge of Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS)
  • Understanding of the design and development of electro-optical/infrared systems and associated opto-mechanical technology
  • Experience with Electrical, Optical, Mechanical, Software and Systems Engineering
  • Front-end concept development for new products
  • Model Based Systems Engineering, Digital Engineering, & Agile Development
  • System-level performance analysis (e.g., image analysis, thermal analysis, structural analysis, end-to-end performance, reliability analysis)
  • Hardware/Software design, integration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Project Engineering/Program Management of aerospace products with multi-site development teams
  • Understanding of defense products and platforms
  • Engineering Project Management – A track record of managing diverse & distributed personnel developing complex technology.
  • Knowledge of digital engineering & modeling techniques including how their use benefit program execution.
  • An understanding of agile development environments.
  • Ability to work seamlessly across multi-site development teams.
  • Technical Acumen – Demonstrated through successful product and systems development experiences involving complex systems such as optics, detector arrays, digital video, processing electronics, pointing, stabilization, & control algorithms.
  • Creative Solutions – Direct contribution to technical solutions that integrate multiple disciplines or technologies into non-obvious system architectures that provide meaningfully unique and differentiated capability; requires understanding of current and proposed competitive solutions, key performance indicators, and end-user mission objectives as well as understanding of interplay between technologies and engineering design.
  • Department Planning – An understanding of both technical and market roadmaps to drive department capability growth plans.
