About the Role

Support the Estee Lauder Corporate strategy for sustainable package development by ensuring packaging aligns with corporate vision and guidelines for responsible material sourcing, manufacturing, and product stewardship. Incorporate values of quality, creativity, and innovation to maintain global leadership in prestige beauty.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior developer with training staff on sustainable packaging vision, roadmap, guidelines, and environmental metrics.
• Monitor new package development projects for brand compliance.
• Assist senior developers with sustainable packaging projects impacting all brands.
• Enhance Sustainable Packaging Guidelines by moving goals toward company standards.
• Research global sources for recycled and renewable materials.
• Identify suppliers with sustainable packaging capabilities.
• Follow and promote guidelines for material and process health using a sustainability scorecard.
• Work with marketing, GSR, Material Science, Corporate Innovations, and suppliers to implement sustainable packaging solutions.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop manufacturing solutions for sustainable packaging.
• Maintain and build industry relationships through participation in organizations like the Sustainable Packaging Coalition, IOPP, and APR.
• Build strong working relationships with marketing, GSR, Material Science, Corporate Innovations, and suppliers.
• Record corporate and brand achievements against set goals.
• Manage all aspects of the development process for new developments with brand package developers or line maintenance developers.
• Manage projects through Technical Packaging to ensure design and construction meet engineering requirements.
• Work with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering to define specifications, design criteria, and defect ranges for optimal process flow.
• Collaborate with brand package developers to create package specifications and validate technical drawings.
• Ensure projects meet intended design, quality, cost, functionality, and manufacturability objectives.
• Ensure packages/components meet the needs of the Brand, Corporate, Regulatory, Environmental Legislation, and consumer safety.
• Provide a comprehensive feasibility study of concepts/packages, defining function, manufacturability, cost, tooling estimates, lead time, risk, and global consistency.
• Stay informed of new materials, processes, and procedures through colleagues, vendors, journals, professional affiliations, and seminars.

Requirements

• Minimum BS degree in Environmental Science, Packaging Science or Engineering.
• 0-2 years’ experience in cosmetic package development or environmental safety and development.
• Experience in beauty or related industry in a technical capacity.
• Proficiency in computer systems including Unique Package Definition Systems, MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Timeline management systems.
• Working knowledge of recycling industry, recycled feed stocks and end of life suppliers.
• Technical competency in analysis of geometric objects in 2 and 3 dimensions including understanding of clearances, fit and finish of packaging components and subcomponents.
• Basic knowledge of materials used in the construction and manufacturing of primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
• Basic knowledge of decorating techniques and materials used on primary, secondary and tertiary packaging.
• Basic knowledge of test methods used to validate component/package performance.
• Adept at building relationships within the organization and collaborating across multiple functions and geographies.
• Adaptable and flexible, not averse to taking a risk.
