About the Role
Snap Inc. is seeking an Engineering Manager to join the Maps team. This role will focus on building the world's most personal map, which is designed for people to connect with friends, discover activities, and explore the world. The team is responsible for the backend services and data infrastructure powering this platform.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of backend engineers in a fast-paced environment.
- Set strategy, build roadmaps, create measurable goals, and lead team delivery.
- Collaborate with Product, Operations, Data Science, Engineering teams, and executive stakeholders.
- Evaluate technical tradeoffs and provide strong technical mentorship.
- Hire, grow, and retain high-performing team members.
- Utilize AI tools and high-velocity engineering workflows to design and ship scalable services.
- Uphold rigorous standards for code correctness, security, and production-ready quality.
Requirements
- Background building high availability and mission-critical backend systems.
- Experience leading an engineering team.
- Track record in both infrastructure and product development.
- Experience building backend infrastructure and shipping user-facing product.
- Ability to lead and execute large, complex technical initiatives.
- Proficiency in or strong aptitude for leveraging AI tools for development.
- Critical judgment to audit AI-generated output for integrity, performance, and security.
- Adaptability in learning and applying evolving AI systems and tools.
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical work experience.
- 9+ years of post-Bachelor's software development experience; or a Master's degree + 8+ years; or a PhD + 5+ years.
- 1+ years of experience managing a team or acting as a technical lead.
- Experience with distributed systems and backend service development.
- Experience with geospatial or location-based systems (preferred).
- Familiarity with driving large-scale initiatives from ideation to completion (preferred).
- Track record of delivery in rapidly changing, highly collaborative, multi-stakeholder environments (preferred).
- Experience with Ops-heavy systems/products (preferred).

Salary/Compensations
- Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $229,000-$343,000 annually
- Zone B: $218,000-$326,000 annually
- Zone C: $195,000-$292,000 annually
- Eligible for equity in the form of RSUs
