About the Role
The University of Rochester is seeking a professional to manage the design, planning, implementation, coordination, operation, and evaluation of assigned benefit programs as part of the University's strategic planning. This role involves policy and procedure maintenance, communication of programs, and interaction with senior management and employees to increase awareness and participation.
Responsibilities
- Manages the design, planning, implementation, coordination, operation and evaluation of assigned benefit programs as part of the University's strategic planning.
- Provides and maintains policies, procedures, contracts and agreements.
- Responsible for the content contained in informational sessions, new hire orientation, web pages, and policies manuals.
- Interacts with senior management and employees to increase awareness of and participation in programs, events and activities.
- Provides professional direction to staff on projects.
- Devises methods for gathering information, analyzing and interpreting data, provides budget information.
- Prepares reports and presentations for multiple audiences.
- Reviews and analyzes program effectiveness performance, ROI, and outcomes.
- Develops recommendations for changes as needed.
- Communicates and promotes benefit programs to University faculty, staff, and retirees.
- Develops and updates various communications used for the benefit plans, including those required under federal or state regulations.
- Conducts instructional and informational sessions with leadership, faculty, staff, and retirees on matters relating to the communication, education, application and/or interpretation of the University benefit plans.
- Develops new initiatives and changes in benefit plans, practices, and procedures required to provide competitive benefit plans.
- Recommends appropriate changes to management based upon benchmarking, regulation changes, and employees’ needs/requests.
- Analyzes effectiveness of programs and develops and implements improvements in benefits, policies, and procedures.
- Develops, implements, and communicates benefit plans and changes to benefit plans for faculty, staff, and retirees.
- Pursues professional growth by participating in webinars, seminars, and participating in professional organizations.
- Responsible for all facets of vendor management, including contract review/renewal, regular evaluation of programs and services offered, as well as pricing, and customer service.
- Makes recommendations for changes, as appropriate.
- Monitors performance, identifies problem areas, and assists in the development of new agreements.
- Assists in establishing metrics for baseline and ongoing performance management of programs.
- Audits carrier remittances, records, reports and interfaces.
- Serves as the primary interface with audit representatives for respective areas.
- Hires, trains, supervises, and develops support staff and oversees the day-to-day operations of assigned area within the Benefits Office.
- Conducts performance assessments and fosters a positive team environment among staff.
- Actively serves on committees and task forces.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience leading a comprehensive benefit program with emphasis in demonstrable experience in managing, designing and communicating benefit programs required
- Equivalent combination of education and experience
