About the Role

Oak Street Health is seeking a Clinical Informatics Specialist (Medical Scribe) to support primary care providers by managing clinical documentation, allowing providers to focus on patient care. This role involves real-time documentation, understanding value-based care models, and assisting providers in identifying and closing care gaps. Extensive on-the-job training is provided. The ideal candidate will commit 1-2 years to the role, making it suitable for pre-med students or those pursuing careers in Health Informatics, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or Medical Coding.

Responsibilities

  • Document patient encounters in real-time, including history, assessment, plan, and physical exam.
  • Assign appropriate CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Prepare After Visit Summaries.
  • Consult with providers to ensure accurate and specific documentation.
  • Request and review medical records.
  • Utilize population health tools to support clinical documentation improvement.
  • Prepare for and support Daily Huddles and Clinical Documentation Reviews.
  • Consult with providers on clinical documentation opportunities.
  • Place orders and referrals.
  • Address tasks.
  • Provide administrative support to the provider and care team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and common medications (required).
  • Prior clinical experience, including shadowing and/or volunteering (strongly preferred).
  • Prior scribe or transcription experience (preferred but not required).
  • Advanced listening and communication skills (required).
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new technical workflows (required).
  • Fluency in Spanish, Polish, Russian, or other languages spoken by communities served (required where indicated).
  • Ability to adapt to new workflows and learn quickly (required).
  • Ability to type 70+ words per minute (strongly preferred).
  • Ability and willingness to take direction and be a team member (required).
  • Ability to be a self-starter within the role scope.
  • Excellent job attendance and ability to work in-person in clinics (required).
  • Ability to commit to at least 1 year in the role (2+ years ideal) (required).
  • Ability to work approximately 40-45 hours per week during clinic hours (required).
  • Compliance with hospital and Oak Street Health policies, including HIPAA (required).
  • US work authorization (required).

Salary/Compensations
