About the Role

The School for Achievement, following the Kingston School District calendar, has an immediate opening for a Special Education Teacher.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct developmental assessments for each student.
  • Develop individual goals and objectives for each student based on developmental assessment.
  • Develop goals and objectives for the total curriculum.
  • Participate in the IEP Direct draft and update process.
  • Develop lesson plans.
  • Conduct daily classroom activities.
  • Establish regular parent conferences and provide continued support for parents.
  • Request, utilize, and maintain appropriate educational materials and equipment.
  • Communicate with staff and other professionals to provide a total educational program for each student.
  • Write and maintain complete reports on each student, including individual educational plans, progress reports, and developmental scales.
  • Implement assistive technology in the classroom.
  • Participate in staff and program development as needed.
  • Supervise teacher assistants.
  • Maintain attendance records of all students within the classroom.
  • Assist and train students in personal care needs (feeding, toileting, dressing, washing).
  • Assist with loading and unloading students on and off buses.

Requirements

  • Eligible for Permanent certification or eligible for/in the process of obtaining Professional certification in New York State as a Special Education Teacher.
  • Two years of teaching experience with pre-school and/or school-aged children with physical and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.

Experience Level

  • Two years of teaching experience preferred

Education Level

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or equivalent
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university
