About the Role
The School for Achievement, following the Kingston School District calendar, has an immediate opening for a Special Education Teacher.
Responsibilities
- Conduct developmental assessments for each student.
- Develop individual goals and objectives for each student based on developmental assessment.
- Develop goals and objectives for the total curriculum.
- Participate in the IEP Direct draft and update process.
- Develop lesson plans.
- Conduct daily classroom activities.
- Establish regular parent conferences and provide continued support for parents.
- Request, utilize, and maintain appropriate educational materials and equipment.
- Communicate with staff and other professionals to provide a total educational program for each student.
- Write and maintain complete reports on each student, including individual educational plans, progress reports, and developmental scales.
- Implement assistive technology in the classroom.
- Participate in staff and program development as needed.
- Supervise teacher assistants.
- Maintain attendance records of all students within the classroom.
- Assist and train students in personal care needs (feeding, toileting, dressing, washing).
- Assist with loading and unloading students on and off buses.
Requirements
- Eligible for Permanent certification or eligible for/in the process of obtaining Professional certification in New York State as a Special Education Teacher.
- Two years of teaching experience with pre-school and/or school-aged children with physical and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.
Experience Level
- Two years of teaching experience preferred
Education Level
- Master’s Degree in Special Education or equivalent
- Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education from an accredited college or university
