About the Role
The Operations Supervisor assists management in overseeing shift operations and personnel, ensuring business objectives, labor requirements, and customer needs are met while balancing financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset targets. This role may involve supervisory duties and is a potential development position for the Operations Manager role.
Responsibilities
- Manage work analysis, planning, scheduling, and assignment to technicians.
- Track and optimize productivity.
- Conduct shift and shop meetings.
- Review and approve ROs.
- Ensure execution of warranty policies and procedures.
- Triage customer drive-ins and communicate with customers.
- Assign work to technicians.
- Conduct yard checks for work scheduling and prioritization.
- Provide management, training, and development for assigned personnel.
- Manage performance of all assigned personnel.
- Manage customer relationships, resolve issues, and ensure customer satisfaction and retention.
- Ensure vehicle uptime.
- Communicate with customers regarding PM scheduling, follow-up, breakdowns, and vehicle status.
- Conduct customer visits as required.
- Direct staff in maintaining the appearance and maintenance of the assigned location.
- Evaluate needs and recommend shop tooling and equipment.
- Assist in managing vehicle specifications and in-service/out-service processes.
- Ensure vehicles have required specifications in SAM.
- Manage parts inventory, policies, and procedures.
- Perform Quality Inspections of PM and repairs.
- Conduct In-Process Reviews of non-PM work.
- Perform breakdown root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate issues to the Technical Assistance Center when necessary.
- Ensure cleanliness and quality of repair for all maintained vehicles.
- Collaborate with Service Manager to ensure technician training and qualification.
- Prioritize TOPS plan based on breakdown, rework, and running cost trends.
- Maintain control and visibility over shop floor activities.
- Ensure proper root cause diagnosis by technicians and optimize parts yield.
- Assist in developing and implementing Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs.
- Maintain documentation to meet regulatory and customer requirements.
- Ensure employee compliance with Safety and EPA regulations.
- Ensure shift/shop meets Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives.
- Implement cost control measures for maintenance operations budget and location P&L.
- Execute Maintenance Initiatives to meet financial targets.
- Approve payroll, purchase orders, and reconcile invoices and fuel.
- Manage the customer bill back process, including identification, review, and approval.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of re-billable activity.
- Ensure data integrity in the Shop Management Online system.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- H.S. diploma/GED required.
- Associate's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required.
- Bachelor's degree preferred or 1-3 years or more experience in a maintenance operations environment required.
- Maintenance and Technical experience in a shop environment required.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience with a Shop Management System preferred.
- Microsoft Office intermediate preferred.
- Ability to professionally represent Ryder and competently interact with customer management.
- Strong vehicle diagnostics/repair knowledge (preferred).
