About the Role

Perform negotiations of Master Trading Netting Agreements, with a specific focus on the ISDA derivatives space, with the Bank’s counterparties, directly contributing to the Bank’s efficient use of capital. The role will entail a specific focus on Barclays’ client base located in EMEA, including loan linked/hedging ISDA documentation, and may service all coverage areas across Barclays’ targeted client base globally.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure Transaction Services and Documentation activities comply with applicable laws and regulations, managing legal and reputational risks.
  • Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal counsel and credit risk management, for timely and efficient transaction execution.
  • Create, review, negotiate, and manage legal documents such as loan agreements and security documents.
  • Provide transaction support, including preparing summaries and conducting due diligence.
  • Develop and implement transaction processes and procedures for consistent execution.
  • Pro-actively identify, communicate, and provide legal advice on applicable laws, rules, and regulations (LRRs), staying updated on changes and ensuring adequate reflection in policies and controls.
  • Contribute to strategy, drive requirements, and make recommendations for change.
  • Plan resources, budgets, and policies; manage and maintain policies/processes; deliver continuous improvements and escalate breaches.
  • Advise key stakeholders, including functional leadership teams and senior management, on functional and cross-functional areas of impact.
  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, supporting the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of organizational functions to contribute to business goals.
  • Collaborate with other work areas for business-aligned support, staying updated on business activity and strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought, comparing and selecting complex alternatives.
  • Define problems and develop innovative solutions through in-depth analysis and interpretative thinking.
  • Adopt and include outcomes of extensive research in problem-solving processes.
  • Build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders using influencing and negotiating skills.
  • Provide support, guidance, and training for more junior members and peers.
  • Perform reviews for more junior members and peers.

Requirements

  • Strong financial services experience, in legal or as a negotiator.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and manage a portfolio independently with strong stakeholder management skills.
  • Understanding of end-to-end cycle times and the importance of MI and data capture.
  • Capacity to work to tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, particularly in the context of project work.
  • Qualified lawyer in England & Wales or other jurisdiction (highly valued).
