About the Role
Derivative Path is seeking an Applied AI Engineer to join the AI Lab team. This hands-on role involves designing, building, and shipping AI-powered features within a complex financial environment, focusing on Generative AI, Agentic Workflows, and Data Engineering to solve challenging problems in financial derivatives.
Responsibilities
- Build and ship LLM-powered features across the DerivativeEDGE platform, translating complex financial workflows into reliable AI capabilities.
- Design and implement agentic workflows that can reason, act, and recover gracefully across multi-step processes in a production environment.
- Own the data engineering layer that feeds AI systems, including pipelines, retrieval architectures, context design, and data quality.
- Move fluidly between experimentation and production, prototyping quickly, evaluating honestly, and determining readiness for shipping.
- Contribute to the AI Lab's broader technical direction, including evaluations, tooling, MLOps practices, and team-built patterns.
- Potentially work on NLP, model fine-tuning, synthetic data, or reinforcement learning based on project needs.
Requirements
- Ability to move with purpose, form views based on knowledge, test against reality, and adjust learning.
- Comfort working through ambiguity as the nature of early-stage problems.
- Preference for hands-on work, including writing code, building pipelines, and running experiments.
- Capacity to learn quickly and adapt to specialized domains like financial derivatives.
- Constructive approach to problem-solving in a demanding environment.
- Pragmatic use of tools and languages, remaining open to better options.
- Building with LLMs: prompt engineering, RAG, fine-tuning, agents, or inference pipelines.
- Data engineering: designing and building pipelines that feed real workflows.
- ML or data science work, especially in complex or data-constrained environments.
- Working knowledge of Python and common AI/ML frameworks (PyTorch, HuggingFace, LangChain, or similar).
- MLOps or production AI experience: getting models out of notebooks and into the real world.
- Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Experience with reinforcement learning or financial derivatives is a bonus.
