About the Role
Provide legal guidance in relation to employment and contract matters, and generally support the legal advice needs of the Canadian business. Partner closely with business teams and stakeholders to support initiatives, offering practical and timely advice to ensure well-managed operations. Innovate while managing risk to meet legal and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support business expansion and issues arising from an increasingly globalized workforce in a federally regulated Bank.
- Conduct legal research and translate legal advice into practical business terms.
- Advise on new and upcoming legislation and regulatory expectations.
- Develop legal guidance and other tools to support business partners operating in complex legal spaces.
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, including third-party agreements requiring familiarity with OSFI B10 Guidelines.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to address special projects, such as legislation implementation, new products, and risk management.
- Perform other responsibilities as requested.
Requirements
- A law degree (LLB or JD) from an accredited law school and license to practice in Ontario.
- 5+ years of experience gained in private practice, government, or in-house.
- Knowledge of the business and regulatory environment in which Capital One (Canada Branch) operates.
- Strong legal research ability.
- Fluency in translating legal advice into actionable guidance for business teams.
- Ability to manage a large volume of work, including complex legal issues with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to work as a team player.
- Comfort interacting with associates across various departments and job levels.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliveries and manage expectations with a growth and possibilities mindset.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively to support business objectives.
- Comfort interacting with associates across all job levels and lines of business.
- Commercially minded, with sound judgment and a practical approach to problem-solving.

- Eligible to earn performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es).
