About the Role
As a Geospatial Data Operations Specialist II, you will ensure map content reliably moves through onX systems to customers. You will collaborate with Project Managers and the geospatial team across onX's verticals to execute work supporting product roadmaps. This role focuses on data acquisition, ingestion, and curation, including outreach to external data sources and agencies. Your communication skills, technical aptitude, and attention to detail will ensure our data meets high standards for quality and trustworthiness.
Responsibilities
- Leverage existing geospatial pipelines to ensure reliable data delivery.
- Transform geospatial and non-geospatial datasets into formats ingestible into onX systems.
- Conduct visual quality control on map content and investigate customer-submitted error reports.
- Proactively communicate work status and escalate data quality risks, pipeline gaps, or platform limitations.
- Assist in data acquisition by gathering readily available geospatial data.
- Support data source ingestion.
- Run routine data processing tasks using onX proprietary platforms.
- Conduct basic Quality Control (QC) of post-processed geospatial map data.
- Perform visual comparisons of candidate datasets to determine their relative quality and usefulness.
- Identify and troubleshoot basic technical issues with geospatial tools and processes.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Wildlife Management, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2+ years of professional geospatial experience.
- Foundational understanding of geospatial data concepts and a passion for learning more.
- Familiarity with common geospatial tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS) and ability to follow established procedures for data processing and analysis.
- Keen eye for detail, especially for conducting visual data comparisons and quality control checks.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Interest in outdoor recreation products.
- Strong curiosity for exploring new technologies, including AI.

- Permanent US work authorization is a condition of employment with onX.
- Ability to travel bi-annually for multiple days to a corporate office or other onX strategic location, such as a Basecamp.
