About the Role

The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is an experienced diesel mechanic responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining fleet vehicles and agricultural equipment. This position works with large engines and heavy machinery to ensure safe operation and optimal performance. The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic II is expected to train and mentor less experienced mechanics as needed. This role requires advanced knowledge beyond engine repair, including electrical systems, hydraulics, fuel and brake systems.

Responsibilities

Performing inspections, maintenance, and repairs on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, trailers, forklifts, pickups, and farm equipment
Diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, brake systems, electrical systems, steering, and cooling systems
Completing complex and advanced repairs
Tracking, documenting, and reviewing maintenance and repair work performed on vehicles and equipment
Ensuring all services and repairs comply with established safety procedures and company standards
Training, mentoring, and providing technical guidance and support to less experienced Fleet Maintenance Mechanics
Driving delivery or manure trucks as needed
Providing assistance in the field during peak planting and harvesting seasons (Clarence Shop)
Performing other duties as assigned

Requirements

Must be able to lift and carry up to 100 pounds (with assistance) on occasion
Ability to use fine motor skills when working on equipment
May need to work in small spaces, climb ladders, or access elevated areas in the course of work
Work long hours in a fast-paced environment, which may include weekends and holidays
Employees will be exposed to all types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust
Exposure to loud machinery, farm vehicles, and various equipment/tools (PPE may be required)
Exposure to farm and industrial environment - including noise, dust, odors, manure, and varying terrain
Must NOT currently own or hunt birds (pet bird, backyard flock, etc.)

Skills

Attention to Detail: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve detailed mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues
Mechanical Skills: Advanced knowledge of complex machinery, engines, and repair techniques beyond entry-level maintenance
Technical Skills: Proficiency in electronic systems, blueprint and schematic reading, and electronic diagnostic equipment
Troubleshooting Skills: Ability to independently evaluate mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems, identify root causes, and implement effective repair solutions
Leadership Skills: Ability to train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to less experienced mechanics
