About the Role

Fitch Ratings is seeking a Director to join the International Public Finance Group (IPF) in Toronto. The IPF group assigns and maintains international credit ratings on public entities and their debt issues. This role will focus on credit analysis for Canadian local and regional governments, government-related and not-for-profit entities, supporting Fitch's strategic growth in Canada. Opportunities for analytical coverage in Europe and Latin America may also arise. The candidate will collaborate with various internal groups on credit-relevant topics.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor a portfolio of issuer ratings, prepare rating committee documentation, and discuss credit in management meetings, rating committees, and with market participants.
  • Write and publish comprehensive rating reports on individual issuers.
  • Prepare for and participate in management meetings with the senior fiscal leadership of rated entities.
  • Participate in credit rating committees for local and regional governments and public entities in own region and other countries.
  • Publish sector-specific research and insightful commentaries.
  • Respond to external queries from investors, bankers, other fixed income market participants, and the media.
  • Comply with Fitch policies and procedures and external regulators' requirements.
  • Travel when necessary for meetings, conferences, and other activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Strong current experience in economics, policy, accounting, and financial analysis, preferably in public finance or government finance.
  • Comfortable working independently in an international environment.
  • Ability to participate in or lead team projects on research, ratings, or operational matters to meet deadlines and annual goals.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously.
  • Ability to sustain a moderate degree of travel, mostly domestically.
  • Ability to assess situations and support assessments with excellent analytical, writing, and communication skills.
  • Proficient knowledge of standard business and database software.
  • Interest and experience in both finance and policy worlds, including familiarity with economic data, tax policy, budgetary and financial reports, governmental organization, interest rates, debt markets, and accounting.
  • Must avoid conflicts of interest or any appearance of a conflict of interest.
