About the Role
The University of Rochester is seeking an individual to coordinate functions associated with visits to the Emergency Department, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and a positive patient experience. This role supports clinical staff and facilitates department workflow.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients, collects and verifies demographic and financial information.
- Initiates ED medical/financial records and assembles charts.
- Performs duties to achieve and maintain proficiency in customer service, data accuracy, and work efficiency.
- Coordinates efforts to edit and correct registration and billing errors.
- Utilizes eRecord programs to facilitate workflow.
- Manages patient tracking system to ensure correct patient location within ED.
- Provides training to other EDAS staff on department-specific work.
- Acts as an information resource for departmental staff regarding registration and workflow.
- Attends education programs and teaches other staff.
- Ensures accurate patient registration and insurance verification prior to discharge.
- Follows up on hold bill reports to facilitate reimbursement.
- Collects co-pays.
- Triages patient calls, assesses urgency, and determines appropriate action.
- Serves as point person for handling complaints.
- Answers incoming phone calls and routes them appropriately.
- Coordinates transportation for discharged or transferred patients.
- Monitors inventory of supplies and assists with supply ordering.
- Performs other patient-focused tasks such as escorting patients, offering comfort items, witnessing consent signatures, faxing charts, pulling charts for QA audits, managing and stocking forms and supplies, and managing requests from clinical staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School diploma and 1 year related work experience in an administrative office or customer service field required.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills
- Demonstrated ability to word process documents and enter data into a database preferred.
- Demonstrated skills related to achievement of customer satisfaction preferred.
- Medical terminology experience preferred.
